- Nickname: Pinky
- Collected: Site P, Leiper's
shale, Huntsville, by Don Williams
- Dimensions: scale bar is .5 mm
- Comments: Microscopic Stereo views. Element was found intact
enbedded in limestone, but broke in the middle while being extracted using
10% acetic acid. "From the photo it appears to be the cordylodiform
element of Oulodus oregonia oregonia (Branson, Mehl, and Branson). The
occurrence in the Leipers Limestone would mean that it may be the subspecies
Oulodus oregonia velicuspis (Pulse and Sweet) which is limited
to the upper Edenian and lower Maysvillian. You may find more
information on this species in Bergstrom and Sweet (1966) and Kohut
and Sweet (1968)." -- communication from Dorothy Raymond Geologist,
Geological Survey of Alabama.
